The Liverpool Church…
As a Christian group, we of course represent only a tiny percentage of the total number of dedicated Christians meeting for worship at various times and on various days throughout the Merseyside area. The name Liverpool Church is an ‘in-house’ label referring to the local congregation on Merseyside of the Worldwide Church of God, which in the UK is a member of the Evangelical Alliance and has links with many other Christian churches and groups. The ‘Liverpool Church’ itself also has links with other evangelical churches on Merseyside and seeks to work alongside them in the service of the gospel.
Meets for worship at Bebington Civic Centre…
We choose to meet at Bebington Civic Centre because it is in the heart of a local community where we hope to be of service and provide a united witness to the power of the Holy Spirit working in the lives of believers. The Civic Centre is a modern, bright and cheerful building, which houses a local library and provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for worship and fellowship.
Every Saturday afternoon…
Although some of our members are native to the Wirral and live nearby, in towns such as Bromborough, Wallasey and West Kirkby, many travel from locations as diverse as North Wales, Southport, Warrington and North and South Liverpool. We find that for those who have to make their way on public transport, Saturday is the most convenient meeting day.
We certainly join with many fellow Christians who regard Sunday as a day which calls to mind the resurrection of Jesus which, according to the gospel accounts, took place early in the morning on the first day of the week, and which is therefore an apt day for Christians to meet together for worship. Indeed, this has been a Christian practice since the time of the original apostles.
However, we also understand that days of themselves are of no significance in terms of our salvation and that it is our duty to make Church meetings accessible for our members and others who may choose to meet with us.
Should we at any time consider that Sunday (or for that matter, any other day) would be a more suitable day on which to meet for our main worship service, then this would become our principal meeting day of choice. Many of our members currently attend local Church meetings, in their own communities, on Sunday mornings as well as on other occasions, where they are fed spiritually and enjoy the additional fellowship opportunities that these meetings bring.
Service commencing at 2pm…
As mentioned above, many of our members travel long distances to get to Church and some make use of public transport. Commencing our service at 2pm is designed to allow members time to make their respective journeys to and from Church and also provide fellowship time after services. As with our choice of day, our choice of service time is also designed to meet the needs of our members and others we would seek to reach with the gospel.
However, we are happy for members and non-members alike to arrive any time before, during or after the service.
The meeting room that we use is booked from 1.30 to 5.30pm though our normal service lasts no longer than 90 minutes.
General Format for meetings: How do people dress? What can I expect to see?
Dress is according to personal preference: (e.g. some men come in a suit and tie, others in T-shirt and jeans, some ladies wear dresses, others dress more casually in cardigans, trousers, skirts etc.)
